Second Chance Re-Entry
Second Chance is a trauma‑informed re‑entry program supporting youth returning from Juvenile incarceration to South Los Angeles. Led by credible teachers with lived experience, the program helps participants rebuild their lives through personalized re‑entry plans, life‑skills training, and employment support. Beginning before release and continuing at the South LA Youth Center, youth receive guidance, mentorship, and access to housing, wellness, and career resources—empowering them to heal, grow, and thrive as they rejoin their communities.
What We Offer
Trauma-informed re-entry support: A safe, supportive approach that recognizes the impact of incarceration, trauma, and transition on young people.
Pre-release planning: Services begin before a participant is released to prepare them for a successful return to the community.
Personalized re-entry plans: Individual plans that identify each youth’s goals, needs, barriers, and next steps after release.
Credible mentorship: Guidance from teachers and mentors with lived experience who can provide trusted, relatable support.
Life-skills training: Skill-building to help youth manage daily responsibilities, make informed decisions, and build independence.
Employment and career support: Connections to job-readiness training, employment opportunities, and career-development resources.
Housing navigation: Support connecting participants to stable housing and housing-related resources.
Wellness resources: Access to wellness supports that promote healing, stability, and personal growth.
Drop-in center services: Continued support, mentorship, and resource navigation at the San Bernardino Drop-In Center after release.
Community reintegration support: Ongoing guidance to help youth rebuild relationships, access services, and thrive as they return to their communities.
